Just seen the pics in Autocar - looks superb - apparently being launched in November.

With the 991 getting bigger an more of a GT, could this be the next '911'?

There are rumblings about a GT3 type version too so it could very well be the new 911. smokin

New 911? Surely that's the 991 and this is "just" a new Cayman .... yes

Looking forward to the launch, though I suspect it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as my Cayman R to tempt me away.

That's a very odd article. It reads as though it's a whole new car, whereas surely it'll be a 981 with a roof (ie broadly the same underpinnings, steering etc - at least that's the way I understand the 987/Cayman relationship?)

Also, if it's 981-based, why doesn't the pic show something that looks more like a 981 - it still has 987 style headlights, and the air intakes are completely wrong - they actually look like a standard 987 (current cayman has vertical 'gills' instead of horizontal slats). I know manufactures try to disguise the exact shape of new cars in their testing, but if it's for real, this disguise is worthy of Mission Impossible!

It mightn't be that hard to stretch a 987 wheelbase and fit the internals from a 981 underneath the body?

You need your eyes testing or a better monitor. It's just camouflage. The shape of the Boxster-style 981 lights is there and the sides are quite heavily hidden. I'm pretty confident it'll look very similar to the Boxster.

I hope not, never been a 911 fan, just hope it's a better Cayman and they are not scared to add some BHp this time.

If the new Cayman looks as good or better than the 981 Boxter it will be one stunning car, I can't wait to see it.

Is this the same test car as in Autocars shots - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPGycSQb6tQ

Indeed. It clearly has the same doors as the 981 Boxster. Would be nice if it doesn't have the same fussy detailing as the new Box, like the lip on the rear, but I don't hold out much hope.

Hmmm. The 991 I drove felt more like a Mercedes than a Porsche. Love the Cayman, much more involving, IMO.

The 991 I test drove felt more like a rocket ship than a Porsche!

In the hands of one of the top instructors around the PEC handling circuit, it was mind blowing! Really didn't expect that much pace around there.

Hmm not sure I like the looks of it...

The Boxster I think is lovely to look at, but this Cayman looks almost Panameralike....or is it just me?

I suppose the final version will look better, hopefully similar to a rendering I saw (on PH?) a while back. That looked stunning.

Rear end with the flat lid, deeper glass and loss of mini buttresses does indeed look fat and Panamera-ish.
