got a C2 plate on mine and i am very happy with it

I will use it on any pork i buy in the future

I have the same on mine plus my initials. None of this bastardising numbers and letters mularkey. It looks fine, other petrol heads know why it's there and at £400 inclusive from DVLA it's not bad value.

I also have a C2 plus my 3 initials plate on my 996. At the time I acquired it I'd probably have preferred to blow the dosh on accessories, but her indoors insisted
Must admit now she was probably right as it does look the part and, of course, you can't tell how old the car is, (well non Porsche enthusiasts anyway!). Even though the car's nearly 9 years old I've had the odd person ask if it's brand new

BA51ARD is (or at least was when I saw it a few years ago) on a 996 Turbo. I thought it worked quite well.

As regards private plates in general - anything with illegal letters or where you have to squint to kind of see what it is supposed to say is quite tragic. Appropriate us of numbers and letters as printed on the plate looks good to me (although there is a money>sense aspect to it. GT03COL was available when I bought my car, but it wasn't worth a couple of grand to me).

I waited years for an 8 RAD plate to come along. I haven't changed the 8 or used an illegal type face or anything, just budged the 8 over an inch to make the name, hope the old bill will suffer it!

I remember hearing years ago (it may be apocryphal) about a couple of East End brothers who'd done very well in the scrap metal game and both drove top of the range Rolls Royces. Whenever they went anywhere they would park them next to each other with the respective plates:
NOT 1 . BUT 2

Would love that to be true!!

Got the obligatory A6 + initials that I've had for years. Does mean the average joe who can't tell the difference between a C2 and facelift turbo, can't tell the age, and so you get more of a "OOOhhhh a porsche" ,rather than those in the know that will just give you the "couldn't afford a proper one then ?? ".....

So I was chatting to a mate some time back, and I asked him whether his M3 had a personalised plate.

'Yes' he replied, 'With my initials'

'Yeah' his girlfriend interjected 'M3 W@nker, W@nker, W@nker!'

She didn't seem too impressed!

My son had L30 TUS on his Elise which looked pretty good, especially as the car was yellow so the rear plate blended nicely. The 993 is currently on N97 DYG but my daughter's bought him J12 URY for Christmas (hope he doesn't read this). To most people this will just make the car look older but, if you ignore the numbers, the letters spell our surname. It's just a bit of fun really but I'd never buy my initials followed by 1, seems a little conceited to me...but then I dread to think what CJ 1 would cost yikes

Now that looks good actually I must say. There does appear to be a correlation with area as well. Bournemouth seems to have a multitude of personalised plates particularly with people who drive the same car as others- i.e there are a truck load of M3's (no disrespect- great car!) so people want to distinguish and it is quite an affluent place in areas so a lot of flash cars around.

I don't necessarily want people to know who I am when I am driving around but a change from the standard P reg would be nice. Just not sure if J64MES is instantly recognisable as James but I am not prepared to pay silly money.

Like most things, there are some that look tasteful and some (many) that look completely naff.

A lot are simply too obscure to make sense.

As a rule, if it only works by manipulating the spacing or distorting the letters/numbers - then it's normally rubbish (and illegal).

When you say make a tidy profit how did you come about the plates?

I often saw on regtransfer and the like 2 numbers and a letter all above 12k but they were selling on the dvla auction from 6k to 7k tops(highish numbers mind). So when i saw a plate of interest to me come up on the auction I bid for it and and got it. So say i paid 6.5k for the plate plus fees and vat the plate actually cost nearer 9k. So yeah i could also say iv made a tidy profit on that plate but in reality i haven't as i couldn't sell the plate for the 13k that regtransfer say its worth because no one buys them. I haven't lost money but i certainly havent made either.

So just interested to know if you have been acquiring them in a different way ie personal adds or have you also picked them up from auction and your tidy profit is unrealised and your going off of quotation from people like regtransfer that can never sell them at the prices they quote?

You on the other hand may have bought yours 10 odd years ago and then its very much a profit

On a better note for me i have 2 plates that i picked up for £300 each and have been bid a couple of grand by other traders as to us they look very good.

Buy quality at the right money and they are a good investment.......I like single number plates, or two numbers and two letters.

My 993 C2 came with the plate - A993 LAD - already on it.

I was a bit uncertain to start with, as the days of me being a LAD are long gone, if indeed I ever qualified at all.

But the plate's grown on me, so I decided to stick with it.

Came close to getting shot of it and reverting to the original N reg plate though.
