Just after some advice....Thinking of purchasing a 968 CS and wondered if anyone had been to see this car or know anything about it. It's been up for sale for a while now. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1293089.htmAlso I thought all CS had the hard back seats but a few are advertised with comfort pack with standard seats and air con....can not remmeber this as an option at launch. Was air con an option with the standard hard back spec? Thanks in advance....

I would have thought aircon is very rare indeed on a CS (it is on other models). Standard seats were available, as were electric windows, not sure if it's called Comfort pack or not. However, seats can always be changed, given how few cars are about I'd focus your attention on finding one in good condition above all else (mileage, number of owners, type of seats, colour etc).

Owners don't bother me and air con is not essential. Remember reading the long term test in Performance car and they said they wished they had air con.....it's all about condition and history. Must have hard back seats and preference is white/red decals or yellow/yellow, but if a good one comes along in a different colour then I'm all ears.I remeber years ago seeing a white car with green decals and wheels which look the business...Let the search begin.
The other option is by a standard 968 and spend the saving on turning it into a track/road car.

Not much of an advert, is it? Not a well-known trader, either - at this money I'd prefer to buy from an enthusiast or name specialist. PPI essential.
AFAIK the A/C was only available on CS with the full comfort pack which replaces the buckets with comfort seats. A Sport is a CS with most of the Comfort features.
If you're not too concerned about the CS badge and intend to do some mods, you'll pay a fair bit less for a Sport or Coupe and will have more cars to choose from. For example, I'd look at Paul Follett's white Coupe which has many desirable mods. (I have no connection to Paul other than being aware that he is well-known in the 968 community.)

So you do see genuine CS's with all sorts of weird spec. The market does favour the purist examples though. Modding a standard 968 is a good option if the purchase is more of a means to and end. Ask yourself, are you in love with the whole 968CS legend because buying one is as much about nostalgia IMO as anything else ? If not and you are really trying more to create a good trackcar then consider a base 968 and then taking it significantly beyond a CS's capabilities.

My (rhd) CS had aircon, the fixed back Recaro's and sunroof delete. As the speedo was kph and the intrument markings in German, I suspect it was a Far East or S. African car. You'll also find a few rhd 'Sports' with a/c, a CS in all but name built on the same line with the same series of chassis numbers. The Euro market could get a CS with the Sport bits (in c. rear seats) as options, but the 'Sport' option package was UK only. SS7 PS Gratuitous Maritime Blue pic:

I suppose there is some of the 968 CS legend in there forme....Remember seeing one at the motorshow when they first came out and wanting one so much. But you could be right a good 968 modded could be a better track/road car than a CS.....

In that case, then maybe consider a halfway house. That is, pick up a cheaper CS that needs work and then fit bigger brakes, M030 ARBS, KW/GAZ , camber plates, SMF etc.. and get the engine decoked and timing/injectors sorted. It won't be cheap but then you'll increase the value significantly.

It strikes me as odd that the pictures are so out of date, clerly taken in the summer.... also would be wary of so little info. Personally, i'd be somewhat cautious.
fwiw, i had a 968cs as a track car and would highly recommend them (good for modding too, i changed the suspension, brakes etc etc). There are a lot about, so be patient and you'll find a good one (for around the same price or less i'd imagine).

Looks like your on the hunt for a factory CS in which case be prepared for a long wait as their relatively scarcity coupled with a wide spread in condition mean that the right one may not come around that soon. And if it does it might seem a little dear compared to a decent Sport.

Lifting the rear of the sunroof really helps airflow, so without a roof or a/c it'll be a pretty warm place on summer's day. SS7

I had a LHD German import 968cs 10 years ago, they are fantastic cars, I had it for 3 years some of that time as a daily driver. No A/C, full hard back seats, Speed yellow + yellow wheels, wind up windows. They had issues with Diff Bearings, if I remember right they would fail around 30K Mine went about 28k.
We spanked it all day round Castle Combe in heavy rain, sleet then snow. We were the last car out there, long after all the TVR's and 911 had limped off.
As for whats out there at the moment, I know of a Porsche technician who is looking for one and says there is just nothing worth looking at at the moment.
Sold mine to two 21 year old who were going to track it! I should never have let it go....
