Hello New to this forum as I have previously posted on the Lotus one many moons ago. It is time for a change and I really fancy a 996TT and like the look of this one. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1469604.htmAny thoughts on it or does anyone know it? It is a fair trek from me (Tunbridge Wells)and I have promised myself that I will not buy the first car I see as I have done on every other occasion (get too excited) THanks in advance...

Northway have a good reputation.
If you could get around £2k off the price I would think you have a reasonable deal.

Have to agree. I think £30k is more like it although the mileage is in it's favour. One concern was the lack of sat nav/PCM may mean it it is harder to sell in the future...or am I being an old woman

Personally speaking, I wouldn't give two hoots about whether it had PCM and I don't imagine that it would be such a big issue come resale time - remember that the system in that car is over ten years old now, and sat-nav has come a long way since then....

Hey Nick,
Out of curiosity, was it the fact that I'm a private seller that I didn't hear back from you re my warrantied black/black 52 plate with PCM in the classifieds?

Also, navigation is now free on modern Nokia phones so I don't think it's a big deal at all.
Didn't stop me buying my turbo.

Apologies for not replying, but yes that was the case. No offence but when I am spending £30k I just feel happier dealing with a company. Saying that black/black is my preferred choice.

Looks like a decent buy to me.
For what it is worth my 2006 997 has PCM. The Tel module is pitiful (not sure why it took so long for Bluetooth to reach Stuttgart) and the Nav is OK (not as good as Trafficmaster Companion on my iPhone for example which cost me £25.00).
Don't fret about it not having PCM - just get a stand alone SatNav if necessary and a Bluetooth solution for the 'phone.
Best of luck.

I wouldnt be bothered about the sat nav, not just because the 5 year old systems are obsolete but because Ray would almost probably buy the car back from you if you decided to sell or trade in the future. He is a straight guy and Northway is a feel good honest place to visit and deal with. If you like the car I would go and have a look.

You are better off with the (oar911) private buy in this case as you can get the Porsche warranty xfered, Northway can't do that and you can't do it yourself for 90 days either, even then it will need an inspection (more cost to rectify stuff) + it's a facelift car, get a private inspection, save a load of money, everyone wins.

Provided finance isnt an issue, this is a very valid point! A much newer cara dn probably make teh Warranty inspection (and a pass obviously) a condition of the sale?

Is it me or does the back left looks like its sagging and the front is sitting high?
Could possible be a lowish tyre or its not sitting on a flat level but looks very odd.

Maybe OP wants to buy from a dealer for the little piece of mind that you cannot get from a private sale - after all he is spending a LOT of money on a high performance car...

For what it is worth, I recently bought a 997 from JZM. However, I'd have been happy to buy privately as long as the seller seemed genuine and agreed to an inspection from the likes of Peter Morgan.
Seem to remember 'Manks' buying a car privately not that long ago (remember because I saw the advert - great spec - but the timing wasn't ideal for me) and he seems to come across as a) sensible and pragmatic and b) pretty happy with his purchase.
Often the quality of dealer support varies as does the quality of warranties they supply (often for only 3 months).
If for example a PHer is selling you can get some sort of feel for them from looking through their posts - just a little bit more information to support your thoughts when you meet them to view a car.
Don't rule out a private purchase if someone has the right car for you.
